14th-Feb-2007 11:47 am - Qualifying predictions!
Michael Jackson
As the Eurocup grows ever-nearer (that's not a word, but that's okay), questions of who will actually qualify arise.

So far, if we take the top two or three (if they're tied in point value) teams from each pool, the list would be as follows:

Finland (11)
Serbia (10)
Poland (10)
Scotland (9)
France (9)
Italy (7)
Turkey (9)
Greece (9)
Norway (6)
Germany (10)
Czech Republic (10)
Republic of Ireland (7)
Croatia (10)
Russia (8)
Sweden (12)
Denmark (7)
Northern Ireland (7)
Netherlands (10)
Bulgaria (8)

What're your thoughts? Who deserves to go in June? Who doesn't?
Personally, I want Spain and Portugal in there, if only for the entertainment value. XD
Also, Russia and Finland both surprised me. I didn't think they'd do so well.

Aha, just for kicks (no pun intended) I think it's humorous to note that David Beckham is going to the LA Galaxy.

11th-Jan-2007 11:18 am - Scotland's Quest for Manager
Conan
The Scottish Football Association has started its search for a new national manager following Walter Smith's departure for Rangers FC with chief executive David Taylor hoping to have a new manager in place within four weeks.

Taylor acknowledged the need for a speedy appointment, saying: "We have a special board meeting scheduled for next Monday morning. I don't think there will be an announcement then, but at the very least we will have a priority list of candidates. We would like it done very quickly. We have a B international on 7 February against Finland and all things being equal we would hope to have the new man in place before then."

10th-Jan-2007 03:55 pm - Austria Pushing Passion
Conan
Again, some older "news", but interesting nonetheless. Host-nation Austria is doing everything it can to work the proverbial buzz to get the excitement levels running high.

While the stadium rallying cry of "Jetzt geht's los!" (Here we go!) will begin reverberating throughout Austria, a group of 'ambassadors of passion' – comprising celebrities from sport, politics and culture, as well as assorted volunteers – will attempt to generate a public buzz. "We're looking for Austrians who want to take part and there are tonnes of them out there," said Palme.
